Hollywood celebrity Angelina Jolie‘s horoscope is extraordinary.
Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt this week. This news prompted me to take a closer look at her astrological makeup.
Astrodatabank.com says Jolie was born on June 4th, 1975, at 9:09am in Los Angeles. This is ‘AA’ rated (very accurate, birth certificate) birth data.
Two features immediately stand out. These are planets conjunct her Ascendant and Midheaven.
Venus conjunct Ascendant
Firstly, her Venus at 28° Cancer. It’s conjunct (or ‘very close to’) her Ascendant degree, which is also at 28° Cancer. This is show by the blue oval, above.
Venus is associated with love, desire, sensuality and sexuality. Venus is also connected with style, fashion and beauty. It is a strongly feminine energy.
The Ascendant in anyone’s horoscope indicates how they ‘come across’ to others. The Ascendant (and 1st house) are about appearance and personality, the face we show to the world. Which may be similar, or very different, to how we actually are.
And ‘how we actually are’, is shown by the composite of other planetary dynamics in the horoscope.
Venus so very close to Jolie’s Ascendant amplifies her Venus qualities. It puts them on prominent public display. Venus-Ascendant is consistent with her image as a beautiful and glamourous Hollywood celebrity. One that many see as an ‘ideal’.
And that ideal has a watery, lunar flavour. This is because her Ascendant and Venus are in Cancer. And Cancer is a water sign, ruled by the Moon.
So there is a rather ‘dreamy’ quality to Angelina Jolie’s appearance. She also has emotional warmth and empathy. And that warmth is driven by an underlying fairly assertive Moon (see below) connected with Mars.
Some people are born with a planet close to either the Ascendant or Midheaven. It is extremely rare for someone to have planets so close to both these points.
Jupiter conjunct Midheaven
Secondly, there’s Jupiter. Jolie’s Jupiter is at 17° Aries. It sits on another key point in anyone’s horoscope, the Midheaven (orange oval).
Jupiter is about wealth, grandeur, a ‘larger than life’ quality. Jupiter is also luck and good fortune. The Midheaven, among other things, is about career.
There can be a downside to Jupiter. It can express as over-indulgence, excess. And can get caught up in its sense of grandeur.
But this doesn’t apply in Angelina Jolie’s horoscope, because her Jupiter has a stabiliser. And that stabilising influence is Saturn. I’ll get to that shortly.
Having two planets close to both main angles is extremely rare. If Jolie was born about 20 minutes earlier or later than 9:09am in Los Angeles, Venus and Jupiter would not be so prominent or ‘loud’ in her horoscope. This is because the house cusps move. They move about 1° every four minutes of time.
So this is an ‘out of the ordinary’ horoscope. It’s almost as if she chose a ‘perfect moment’ to be born with such a configuration.
Now let’s look at key planetary aspects in Angelina Jolie’s horoscope.
Jupiter square Saturn
I previously mentioned that Jupiter’s potential recklessness and excess is stabilised by Saturn. This is because Jolie’s Jupiter is in square aspect (about 90°) to her Saturn. See the blue arrows, above.
Saturn energy is opposite yet complementary to Jupiter’s. Saturn is responsibility, structure and discipline. Saturn is the brakes, Jupiter the accelerator. Jupiter aims for ‘more’, Saturn for ‘less’. Much of life is about finding a balance between these two qualities.
For Jolie, Saturn is therefore a useful moderating influence. Particularly in terms of career and providing restraint of Jupiter’s tendency to excess.
People with out of control Jupiter are stereotypically those with spend their wealth on ‘more’ of everything. And this excess often eventually catches up with them, in terms of health impacts, debt, and so on.
Sun opposite Neptune
The Sun is our vital energy, our ego, our ‘self’.
Jolie’s Sun at 13° Gemini is opposite (about 180°) her Neptune at 10° Sagittarius. This is shown by the green arrows, above. This combination denotes someone (Sun) who is mysterious and elusive (Neptune). It’s a great combination for an actor.
That’s because Neptune has a chameleon-like quality. This makes ‘pretending to be someone else’ (acting) fairly easy to achieve, a talent.
For Jolie, Sun opposite Neptune adds allure and mystery to her sense of self. It’s the kind of aspect that ‘keeps people guessing’ about what is really going on.
The downside is that she may have (or had) trouble knowing ‘who she is’. Neptune colours things, makes things diffuse and unclear. It can also give high idealism, a vision.
Venus square Uranus
The red arrows (above) show this aspect. It’s similar to one in my horoscope. Although mine is a Venus-Uranus conjunction.
Uranus to Venus indicates a changeable or unusual love life. And/or a unique perspective on Venus-related matters. Uranus is galvanising and magnetic, somewhat erratic. But it can also be exciting, unusual and unique. Uranus people take pride in their originality.
With Venus so closely bound to Jolie’s Ascendant, this aspect’s energy will be publically visible. You get an indication of this from a few Jolie quotes.
For instance, Wikipedia says in 2003 Jolie was asked if she was bisexual. Jolie responded:
“Of course. If I fell in love with a woman tomorrow, would I feel that it’s okay to want to kiss and touch her? If I fell in love with her? Absolutely! Yes!”
And in another quote, spoke about the sudden (Uranus) dissolution of her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton:
“It took me by surprise [Uranus], too, because overnight, we totally changed. I think one day we had just nothing in common.”
Moon conjunct Mars
This aspect means a fiery action-oriented (Mars) emotional life (Moon). The Moon governs our emotions and emotional security. Mars is about ‘doing’, will. Joined together, it indicates actions driven by emotion. And vice versa. Particularly as this conjunction is in fiery and assertive Aries.
But this planetary combination won’t be all that visible to the outside world.
That’s because Jolie’s Moon conjunct Mars is in her 9th house. This is a cadent house, so it’s going to be more ‘beind the scenes.’ You can read more about astrological houses in an earlier post.
Angelina Jolie’s horoscope: summary
In conclusion, this is clearly a poweful and notable horoscope. Having planets so close to both Ascendant and Midheaven is extremely rare.
Venus close to the Ascendant provides sensual/sexual charisma and allure that has an emotional warmth. This is coloured and made more vibrant by Venus’ aspect to changeable magnetic Uranus. And perhaps more mysterious by her Sun-Neptune aspect.
Jupiter on the Midheaven gives a wide-ranging career, wealth and good fortune. And because of the aspect to Saturn, Jupiter is moderated and structured.
Angelina Jolie’s horoscope has no planets in earth signs. This can give a lack of groundedness. And challenges around stability; finding a firm foundation in life.
Her life has not always been plain sailing. In her youth she experienced depression, self-harm and attempted suicide. But more recently she has become a human rights advocate as well as raising awareness of breast cancer following her double masectomy.
Overall, Angelina Jolie’s horoscope is a fascinating one with a powerful sense of purpose and presence.
