He’s the new British Prime Minister. Some people love him. Some don’t. So let’s look at Boris Johnson’s horoscope. What makes him tick?
As Wikipedia puts it:
Johnson is a controversial figure within British politics and journalism.
Supporters have praised him as an entertaining, humorous, and popular figure, with an appeal stretching beyond traditional Conservative voters.
Conversely, he has been criticised by figures on both the left and the right, who have accused him of elitism, cronyism, dishonesty, laziness, and using racist and homophobic language.
Boris Johnson was born on June 19th, 1964, in New York, at about 2pm. This data is considered ‘reasonably accurate’ (‘A’ rated) by astrodatabank.com. Using this data, Boris Johnson’s horoscope looks like this:
Let’s now look at some of the key astrological features displayed in his horoscope (or ‘chart’). Features that predispose or incline Johnson towards certain behaviours.
Uranus opposite Saturn
This is shown by the yellow arrow, above. Uranus is the slower moving ‘transpersonal’ planet. Here, it directly connects to the more personal planet, Saturn. Uranus and Saturn are about 180° from each other here. This is what astrologers call an ‘opposition’ aspect. It’s one of the ‘hard’ aspects. Not ‘hard’ as in ‘difficult.’ But ‘hard’ as in ‘always switched on,’ forceful, direct.
The other hard aspects within the classic Ptolemaic suite of aspects are the conjunction (about 0° degrees apart – more on this shortly) and the square (about 90° apart).
Uranus is the planet symbolising eccentricity, change, abruptness, unexpected surprises. Here, it passes this influence on to Johnson’s Saturn. Which is a planet we associate with conservatism, structure, maturity, order and discipline. If Jupiter is the accelerator (more is good!), then Saturn is the brakes; a complementary opposite.
So in Johnson’s case, the usually stable Saturn is perpetually being shaken and stirred by Uranus. Which from Saturn’s point of view would seem uncomfortable.
But it does indicate that this is someone whose sense of structure and discipline is forever subject to change. And perhaps the key to reliability and consistency (Saturn) is … no consistency at all (Uranus).
In a positive sense, this Uranus-Saturn combination could mean innovation. The ability to defy convention. Hopefully in useful and creative ways. And not just for their own sake.
Neptune opposite Jupiter
This is indicated by the blue arrow, above. Again, we have a ‘transpersonal’ planet, Neptune, mentoring an inner planet, Jupiter. So Neptune provides the underlying qualities to Johnson’s Jupiter, the planet associated with wealth, excess, enthusiasm, more-ness and exaggeration. To this, Neptune brings its blurry blend of idealism, fantasy, mystery and (at worst) delusion.
Neptune blurs the lines. It’s qualities are about breaking down boundaries. Which is why it is associated with drugs, alcohol, and the ‘world beyond.’ Positively, it can bring deep seated and positive ideals (Neptune) to fruition (Jupiter). More negatively, Johnson’s drive (Jupiter) might simply be underpinned by vague and fuzzy fantasy. Which he may or may not be conscious of.
Sun conjunct Venus
Both of these planets (green circle, above), along with Mercury and Mars, are in Gemini. Two planets (well, the Sun is technically a luminary) in a close conjunction like this means their qualities and energies are permanently intertwined.
The Sun is ego, self identity, ‘who I am.’ Venus is what I love, value, honour and desire. So for Boris Johson, these qualities are compressed into one. Which could be interpreted as ‘I love myself.’ Or, ‘who I am, and what I value, are one in the same. Always.’
And being in Gemini means that these two planets, and the other two, are all ‘ruled’ by Mercury (blue oval, below). They all look to Mercury as their guiding light, their CEO. And Mercury is generally about talk, ideas, lots of chit-chat, wit, ambiguity. And also journalism, writing. Which are part of Johnson’s career history.
So Johnson’s combined self and love is expressed through what he says, what he thinks, and how he communicates (Mercury/Gemini).
Not only that, but also what he ‘does.’ His sense of action, of doing. Which is represented by Mars, which is also in Mercury-ruled Gemini. His actions (Mars) are driven by communication, ideas, thoughts. More than most people.
Mars is actually a focal point in Boris Johson’s horoscope. As we’ll see in a minute, using the additional arrows added to his chart, below.
Uranus and Saturn square Mars
This combination is what astrologers call a T-Square. In Johnson’s case, Uranus opposite Saturn forms the cross-bar of the T-Square. And both these planets direct their energies to the focal point of the T-Square, Mars.
A famous example of someone with a T-Square with Mars as the focal point is Hollywood actress Margot Robbie. Who I’ve written about here.
The qualities mentioned previously about Uranus opposite Mars are here also ‘passed on’ to Mars, the planet of action, willpower, ‘doing.’
So the eccentricity of Uranus and the wobbly stable-yet-unstable Saturn influence Johnson’s Mars. Meaning what he does (Mars), based on ideas, talk, chatter – will have an underlying unique and unpredictable (Uranus) flavour. One that might ‘try’ to be reasonable, structured and mature (Saturn); but has difficulty doing so. Given how wobbly Saturn is here in Boris Johnson’s horoscope.
Secondary theme: Scorpio Moon
The above points are the main ones, as I see them. Plenty of astrologers will no doubt elaborate further, and go into greater detail.
But before we wrap up, there are a few other secondary points. Firstly, the Scorpio Moon in Boris Johnson’s horoscope. This is dependent on an accurate birth time. If he was born a few hours earlier in the day, his Moon would be in Libra. But if he has a Scorpio Moon, it means (in a nutshell) an intense emotional life. One that wants to get to the core of things. But also can tend to have issues with trust. Because if you thrown in your full emotions, you want to be sure it’s with those you trust. And how can trust be established? For some people with Scorpio Moon, there’s an element of suspicion: ‘Can I trust you?’
Secondary themes: Nodal axis, Ascendant
We also have the Nodal axis. Which is the North Node (what we’re aiming for in life, even if it is a bit uncomfortable). And the South Node (what we’re good at, but we need to ‘move on’ from).
In Boris Johnson’s horoscope, his North Node is in Cancer. In the 9th house. He’s aiming for emotional fulfilment. in higher learning, higher education; the big picture.
And he’s moving on from a more domestic and eccentrically structured origin (‘been there, done that’) – South Node in Capricorn in the 3rd house.
Finally, Johnson’s Ascendant (aka ‘Rising Sign’) is Libra. A sign ruled by Venus. And as we know, his Venus is wrapped up with his Sun. The Ascendant is about how we come across to others, our personality. In this case, we have the seemingly consultative typical Libra qualities on display. Yet, Venus is very much connected to Johnson’s sense of identity and self (Sun).
So, he may seem consultative and interested in what others might have to say. But there may be a tendency for all this to be subtly shaped by Johnson’s self-identity more than anything else. Which, as we have seen, is also geared towards Mercury. And all the dialogue, chatter, wit and ideas that go with that. For better or worse.
Boris Johnson’ horoscope: summary
I don’t follow British politics much. But it is clear that Johnson has some quirky and distinctive themes in his horoscope, that accurately reflect his general behaviour and inclinations.
What he does with those is up to him. Astrology doesn’t define someone. It just provides insight into predispositions, and likely ways that these might express.
He is certainly a somewhat eccentric and unpredictable (Uranus) person. Yet also with charm (Sun conjunct Venus).
Overall, he is very Mercurial, because many of the planets in his horoscope ‘look to’ Mercury as their guide. Particularly Mars. Which, as we have seen, is about action.
